Good food in a "townie" type bar & grill. We ordered drinks and got them right away. Had fried pickles for appetizer and they came out screaming hot - but very tasty! I had the pork tenderloin sandwich and it was great - best I've had in Cedar Rapids. My husband had the Hail Mary (a turkey sandwich with jack cheese, thousand island dressing, and coleslaw).. He liked it. My mom had the broasted chicken and potatoes and she raved about it. I will definitely be a frequent visitor! The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is because service was a little slow for my taste.

My dad and step mom are regulars at this bar. We go there every time I visit. They have great food. The service is amazing. The owners are there a lot so if you have a concern you could ask them. The women bathroom smells good. They have a good selection of drinks and food. WARNING it does get packed when bands are playing. Bands are amazing.

Visited from WI. My brother suggested we could go to eat here so naturally, as a Yelper, I immediately checked reviews. Yikes- some of them were kind of brutal! I assume if you've put 1 star they punched you in the wrist after spilling a beer in your purse. (Or they had puny, disgusting wings in which case forward your attention to Cedar River Landing) Anywayyy...sat down with a group and the bartender (the only one staffed other than the cook) took our orders and was courteous. She even told us the specials which were cheap tallboys- don't mind if it do! The food was great! I had low expectations but my standards were still set high; I don't lower standards to make others significant ;) We had broccoli bites and I had a turkey sandwich I forget the name. The ONE thing I'd say is that the French dip wasn't up to par. A few people at our table ordered that and said the meat was dry. I trust my boyfriend- his dad is a juggernaut butcher so he knows about quality! Overall- I said 4 stars. It was a Sunday afternoon and we indulged in bloody Mary's and fried food. What's better than that? Ohhh side note- the children's (yea, we had kids along, my brother's gf's.) cheeseburger took a minute past when we all got our food and the bartender/waitress/problem solver brought her a basket of fries! Can't complain with a heaping pile of crispy goodness in front of your eyes. Great job to the dark haired angel in jeans who took care of us. IF I ever visit IA again...bet on seeing me.

The Silver Star was opened by the owner of the Star Bar in Fairfax although it is now under new ownership it still has a similar feel to the Star Bar. The high ceilings seem to amplify the noise and it gets pretty loud especially when there's a lot of screaming rednecks on NASCAR night. The servers are all pretty good and the food is above average. We had the pizza tonight (half price on Saturdays and Mondays!). The thin crust was rather tough and hard to cut with your fork. It was obviously a pre-made crust but well topped and they use fresh mushrooms. The broasted chicken is good and moist, not salty tasting as it is at some places. We're not regulars but enjoy coming in for the food and live music on an occasional Saturday night.

Used to be the old Mugs and Jugs then just jugs I think it's not a bad little place but it's not in the best location for the crowd I think there trying to get in here.

Stopped in with a co-worker today to give it a try. With no other customers in the place we were a little reluctant. So we both ordered the grilled chicken salad. Will never come back. We both noticed a strange taste, but couldn't figure our if it was the chicken or the lettuce, we each had different salad dressing so we new that wasn't the source. Could be a great little place, service seemed fine. The food, not so much.

I have been to Silver Star numerous times, mostly with my wife and sometimes we bring the kids. We generally come here just for the food so I cannot accurately comment on the bar scene. Contrary to a lot of other reviews here, we have actually always had great food. My wife enjoys the fish and chips and I always order the Rattlesnake Burger, the sauce is awesome, it has some heat but not at the expense of taste. I can say that we have been to Silver Star enough times to know that our experience with good food and good service are more than just a fluke. We will definitely be returning.

Swung by to try it out. Hidden in a strip mall by Paneras and Sushi House. The old Mugs. Hit a Sunday for a quick lunch and they had buy 1 app, get 1 free. Which was good since we were in a hurry. So I thought. Just one waitress/bartender trying to do it all with prob 1 cook in the back. Got the fried green beans $6 and those were good. Asked if the Nachos were huge for the $10 price tag, and said yes, to find out (after some time getting) that they were like a half size order to most other places, out of the can nacho cheese and round Tostito style ships with mediocre amount of toppings and ground beef. And not enough salsa for even a 5 chips. Needless to say we were disappointed (wasnt the waitress's fault). All the apps seem over-priced from what we got and saw. All the Burgers range from $6+ w/out fries or anything (you need to add). They do have a full menu and a bunch sounded good. But for what we got and paid for just in the appetizers... I'll doubt we'll venture back sorry to say. I was hoping and wishing for more. Best of luck.
